This season, we partnered with some of our favorite mothers who happen to be multi-talented artists, photographers, and designers. We asked them to capture their littles in their natural elements. The result has been a series of beautiful images from around the globe.
Luciane of Rebucado Acido lives with her family in Portugal. A busy graphic designer and mother of two, Luciane takes the most stunning images of her littles (as you can see for yourself)! Below, she tells us more about her family life in Portugal.
B+G: What are the biggest gifts and challenges of motherhood?
Luciane: Creating life is the most wonderful thing that ever happened to me, it’s an amazing gift itself that also brought so much love and happiness to my life. But I admit it can be also so demanding and challenging, I feel overwhelmed very often, so many things to do and to think of and sometimes it’s not possible to do everything.
B+G: What motto do you live by or try to instill in your children?
Luciane: When they say “I can’t do something” I immediately tell them don’t give up so quickly and assure that they can do whatever they want, anything is possible they only have to believe in themselves. I want them to grow strong and confident, to trust the power of their will and fight for whatever is important to them.
B+G: What is your favorite thing to cook for your children? Or what is their favorite thing to eat?
Luciane: Sometimes when I get homesick (my family is in Brasil and I am on the other side of the Atlantic), I make something my mom used to cook when I was a child, it comforts me. My favourite source of inspiration is a handwritten notebook she gave to me with family recipes, it’s really special. And I’m proud to say my kids love brazilian’s favourite dish: rice&beans.
B+G: Describe your ideal family day.
Luciane: Our week days are so busy and chaotic so an ideal day should start with a super lazy morning, no rush for anything, no obligations. Later we would go for a walk around the city, then lunch at a nice restaurant and spend the afternoon at a park, lying in the grass.
B+G: What are your favorite things to do with your children?
Luciane: Go to parks on a sunny day and let them run free; sit them both at the kitchen countertop and bake with their help, they are great assistants; go to our local market to buy fresh fruits and vegetables for the week, I love to see how much they enjoy this task.
B+G: What is your philosophy when it comes to motherhood?
Luciane: Give love and let them know how much loved they are, I tell them many times a day that they are so amazing and special. I don’t care too much about rules and things people tell me I should do.
B+G: What was the biggest surprise about becoming a mother?
Luciane: It still surprises me how hard it can be to make time for myself, I want always to be there for them, to do anything they need but it’s normal to not ask me what I’d like to do for myself.
B+G: If you could go back 10 years, what would you tell yourself?
Luciane: Don’t worry too much, you will get there.
B+G: What excites you most about motherhood?
Luciane: It’s amazing to see the world through their eyes, it’s like going back to my own childhood, when I was pure and innocent, still discovering the world, with so much curiosity.
B+G: You’re an amazing photographer and blogger. How has it been balancing a career and caring for your family?
Luciane: Oh, thank you! I love photography and blogging but these are still only my favourite hobbies. I work professionally at a studio as a graphic designer while the kids go to school. Our mornings and nights are very busy and we don’t get to spend much time together, which is hard for me at times. I don’t know if some day I will master the balance between career and family, it’s always a dilemma…
B+G: Any upcoming work projects you are excited about?
Luciane: I always have so many ideas for the blog but not always have the time.. hopefully I will bring some news soon.
B+G: How would you describe the aesthetic of your home?
Luciane: Hmm.. it’s super simple with some colorful details and photographs everywhere.
B+G: How would you describe your own style? How has it changed since becoming a mother?
Luciane: My style is very casual, jeans, t-shirt and converse is my basic everyday wear since my 20’s!
B+G: What do you love most about raising your kids where you live?
Luciane: I was born in Brasil and I remember when I was a child I wasn’t allowed to play outside without the presence of an adult, it could be dangerous, criminality is part of brazilian reality. So, obviously one of the things I value the most here in Portugal is the safety, it’s a very peacefull and secure place to live.
B+G: Would you like to live anywhere besides Portugal?
Luciane: It could be nice to move to Australia or New Zealand one day and live close to the beach in a house with an amazing backyard.
B+G: What is your favorite room in your house and why?
Luciane: The living room probably because it’s the biggest space in our house, it also has the best light.
